Updated: Xbox Live Primetime Delayed
Not quite ready for the limelight.
by Nate Ahearn
October 21, 2008 - Microsoft's planned "Xbox Live Primetime" initiative, which would allow Xbox 360 users to utilize the personal avatar system that's coming with the New Xbox Experience to participate in game show style contests, has been delayed, Forbes.com is reporting.
Originally planned for release on Nov. 19 to coincide with the release of the free download for the New Xbox Experience, Xbox Live Primetime is now being pushed back until spring 2009. Primetime promised to deliver game show experiences such as 1 vs. 100 where Live users could jump online and compete against gamers the world over for real world prizes.
According to the Forbes.com article, Microsoft said, "the delay is necessary in order to ensure a smooth launch of the system's new user interface." In other words, it just wasn't going to be ready by the time November 19 rolled around.
Update from Microsoft representative: "The New Xbox Experience is our most ambitious undertaking and a platform that will grow over time, with the addition of new and exciting features for you, your friends and your family. Consumers will see a groundbreaking experience starting this November, with a new, easy-to-navigate interface; access to a vast catalog of arcade games; and the addition of 12,000 movies and TV episodes through Netflix, creating a full entertainment library of more than 30,000 HD and standard movies and TV episodes available on Xbox 360. Building on this experience, Primetime will get its own spotlight in the Spring of 2009."
