There are 3 stock firmware versions of Liteon DG-16D4S DVD Drive.

9504, 0225 and 0401.

After the 2.0.13146.0 System Update the 9504 became 0272 (the 9504 was the only version at this stage that could be written to)

The 0225 and 0401 have the write protection enabled so they were not updated.

After the 2.0.13599.0 System Update the 0272 had its write protection enabled.

So now you have 3 firmware versions of the same drive all with write protection enabled.

This drive has a main controller chip called the MT1335WE



The SPI (flashable part of the controller chip) is where the firmware is stored.

There are two different versions of SPI, MXIC and WINBOND. Click here to see how to tell which version you have.

Both can be unlocked but with different methods.

MXIC can be unlocked with the SPUTNIK360 Unlock Switch:

Note: There is no simple switch hack like the SPUTNIK for the Winbond yet. It is still in development.
