With softmods and new solderless solutions available many customers have doubts if thier 3x drive speed limit is worth switching from the traditional modchips. We have done several tests on multiple Wii’s using original/backup discs to determine if the drive speed effected load times and gameplay. To sum up all the information below NO DIFFERENCE!

Conclusion:
From our test we have found no difference between 3x and 6x drive speeds. Unlike the XBOX 360 games where load times and sometimes game play is effected from drive speed because of the rich content, the Wii games seem to make no difference. We have tested several other games like Mario Galaxy, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Call of Duty and found similar results. Hopefully this has cleared up some of the confusion as several people seem to just buy certain modchips based on the number of features to believe that this whole drive speed makes a difference.

目前针对D2NOTHING/D3的新款SOLDERLESS MOD-CHIP很多都将光驱的速度限制在3倍速，由此，很多人都产生了疑问，是否会对游戏的读取造成影响？？GMODZ/MADMODS近日做了这个测试，发现从游戏加载到游戏过程中，限定在在3倍速的光驱和原来的6倍速并无差别，并希望借此次测试澄清一些人对于限制了光驱速度而且产生的困惑。

Equipment Used:

? * Strobette (high speed light flashing device used to determine speed of an object)
? * Wiikey 1.9s, Wiikey 2, D2sun v3pro, D2pro9
? * SSBB burned at 6x on verbatim DVD-R using IMG burn


Test 1 – Drive Speed

6x Drive Speed

? * Wiikey 2 installed running at 6x using a backup of SSBB
? * Strobette measured drive speed at 3600 flashes per minute. This same test was done on a stock Wii using original Wii Sports, and SSBB and strobette also measured 3600fps.
? * Lets assume that 3600fps = 6x

3 x Drive Speed

? * Wiikey 1.9s which sets the drive to 3x using backup of SSBB
? * Strobette measured drive speed at 2200 flashes per minute.
? * If 3600fps = 6x then it’s safe to say 2200fps = 3.66x


Test 2 – SSBB

6x Drive Speed

? * Time taken to boot to warning screen once you click “start” 6 seconds
? * Loading time to load intro video 22 seconds

3x Drive Speed

? * Time taken to boot to warning screen once you click “start” 6 seconds
? * Loading time to load intro video 22 seconds


If you are seeing increased load times or choppy game play it could be the media or the burn itself. We always suggest any Pioneer burner and IMG burn.

如果感觉游戏加载时间变长或是游戏突然变得不顺畅是因为光盘质量或是刻录问题造成的，建议使用先锋光驱配合Image Burn软件。.

这个测试只是针对modchip的限速问题（包括最近提出的DriveKey、Wasabi DX等等solderless芯片），BKL、Softchip等软IC的速度受到很多因素影响，所以并没有测试。
BTW，我的D2sun就是在Gmodz买的，服务不错，我订的是v1.5，结果因为他们out of stock，所以免费给升级到了v3.0。（价格差us$10)
