Speech Recognition and you, telling your console what to do is fun!
Hello all, Mister Blint here again, today we’ll be talking about one of my favorite features of Kinect, and that is speech recognition/Voice Commands. If you are like me you have been yelling at your electronics for as long as you can remember, and invariably they still don’t do what you say. Now though if you can see it, you can say it and your Xbox will obey!
Speech recognition allows you to control some aspects of your Kinect Experience using just your voice. It can be enabled or disabled at any time under System Settings -> Kinect Settings -> Speech Recognition.
Of course like anything else there are a few ground rules:
First you need Kinect for the Xbox 360.
Second speech recognition only works for the following regions/languages:
Locales Language
US English
Canada English
UK English
Japan Japanese
Mexico Spanish
The way the console decides which language to use is based off of the language associated to your Gamertag, or if no profile is signed in, the region your console is set to.
You can find information on how to change your console’s region here:
http://support.xbox.com/pages/xb ... kb.aspx?kbid=906662
If your console language is set to a non-supported language, you will be unable to you speech commands while you are not logged in, however, if your Xbox LIVE account is in a supported language, you will be able to log in on your account, speak your account’s language and have Kinect recognize your commands.
If you are having any issues, or you simply decided to move around your speakers, you should run the audio calibration portion of Kinect Tuner. Audio calibration will allow Kinect to adjust to and correctly interact with you in your play space.
Once you have your Kinect calibrated it’s time to get your Xbox 360 to start listening to you. On the main dashboard simply say, in a clear and commanding voice “Xbox”. At that point a dialog box will pop up at the bottom with a list of commands. Saying “Xbox, Kinect” will bring you to the Kinect HUB where you can launch any of the tiles simply by saying “Xbox” and the applications name. Some examples are:
“Xbox, previous” – brings you to previous screen
“Xbox, next” – jumps a screen forward.
“Xbox, open tray” – Opens the Xbox’s disc tray
“Xbox – Sign in” – Will allow other users to log in via the Kinect HUB.
As long as the dialog box is at the bottom of the screen, and you see a list of commands you can say, you can simply say the word, such as “next” without having to say “xbox” again.. |
