The Gensou Suikoden series has always been a mixed bag of quality and popularity. At times it has produced extremely good rpgs that have sold quite well, while other times we've gotten some less than stellar titles that underperformed at retail. Still, the series does have a base set of fans who appreciate the series' world view and enjoy each new installment for the tales they bring. For these folks -- and hopefully other RPG fans as well -- Konami's recently announced Suikoden Tactics and newly revealed Suikoden V will hopefully do the trick.
Suikoden V takes place in the Queendom of Falena, a kingdom which was referred to a few times in the earlier games. It is an area ruled by women with a queen in control at all times. The lead character in the tale is the princess of Falena who sports of very eastern style of dress as opposed to the knights and pirates of earlier titles. She is joined by Lion, a female knight of the kingdom. The other characters introduced so far are Ashtart Falenas, current ruling queen of Falena and an unknown male character. The time period is unknown at the moment, so whether it takes place before Suikoden I-III like Suikoden IV and Tactics do or whether it advances the main Suikoden world story is still in the air.

A trailer and a playable demo of the game will be available for show attendees at the Tokyo Game Show on September 16th-18th. We will, of course, be on-hand at TGS to give you the full scoop..
