翻译什么的。。。谷歌机翻还可以

“Ignorance is bliss” is a common idiom, but one that rings true when I look back on the games I loved in my youth. Take Gauntlet for instance. Ignorant as I was that my ever diminishing health was just a way to relieve me of my cash and fill Atari's coffers, I adored the game. Knowing what I know now, I sometimes wish I could have those tokens back. Playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus on the Vita, I felt a similar feeling creep over me. Aside from its obvious flaws as a port, I started to realize that despite how satisfying the game's combat can sometimes be, it ultimately isn't worthy of all the magnanimous praise I furnished upon it just a few short years ago.

I say this because there was a time when I thought Ninja Gaiden 2's combat was so far beyond everything else in the genre that I was willing to look past its many flaws. I didn't realize, for example, how tepid the level designs are. Some stages suffer from pacing issues, leaving you to wander aimlessly, or fumble with clumsy platforming sequences while starving you of the series-defining action for long stretches. Others constantly constrict you to claustrophobic corridors and narrow stairwells, where the already problematic camera becomes a total game-breaker. Art direction is equally erratic, rushing you past beautiful vistas of Euro-Gothic castles, only to entrap you in drab basements and boorish sewer canals for inordinate amounts of time.

Even the combat, still the game's strongest element, suffers from issues that I once wrote off as elements of “challenge”. Enemies do come in a pleasing array of varieties in Ninja Gaiden 2, each sporting a plethora of unique attacks to threaten with, and unlike many action games, they arrive in force and aren't afraid to gang up on you. Though the aggression is welcome, the dirty tricks built into the design can make for encounters that are eye-rollingly annoying rather than truly challenging.

That aforementioned camera is the main culprit, zooming in at awkward angles and leaving you unable to see or respond to anything but the enemies right in front of you. Even worse, hit reactions are all over the place. At times, a basic attack will maim an enemy, slicing off a limb and priming him for a satisfyingly gruesome execution on the next hit, while at others, the same enemy will power through an identical attack and land a massively damaging grapple move, robbing you of your combo (and a hefty portion of your health bar in the process). I'm all for enemies shrugging off attacks, and forcing you to stick and move rather than hack and slash, but the lack of consistency in how foes respond to your blows often turns an otherwise precise ballet of death into a game of roulette.

This may sound like a plus for perfectionists who like earning every inch, but any seasoned action vet will likely breeze through without a problem. As mentioned before, attacks can randomly dismember enemies, allowing you to press triangle for a quick execution kill right after. The animations for these are deviously empowering, but more importantly, you're completely invincible while performing them. After you've downed one baddie, his buddies are pretty screwed, since you can absorb the essence he's left behind to charge up an ultimate technique - an uninterruptable attack sequence that kills or dismembers pretty much whatever it hits. Chaining these together is criminally easy, and once you've got the hang of it, even the hardest battles boil down to getting one quick kill, and then going autopilot as Ryu makes ground chuck out of demons and ninjas alike. Initially this makes you feel powerful, but eventually, having such a simple, powerful tactic to fall back on makes the rest of your repertoire feel inconsequential.

Still, there are some folks who just love Ninja Gaiden 2, but sadly, even they'll have a few axes to grind with Sigma 2 Plus. The first, and most obvious is the framerate, which clocks in at 30 frames per second, half of the original's 60. This might be expected given that the Vita lacks the raw firepower of the PS3, but the bigger issue is that it can't keep that framerate locked in. When things get hectic (as being a ninja often does) it dips further, occasionally flirting with unplayability. At times, anti-aliasing seems to turn off completely to keep performance from **ing, resulting in short bouts of extreme jaggies on every edge. Given how stable and sharp the original Sigma Plus was on Vita, I expected a lot more from this port.

Another let-down is the removal of the surprisingly enjoyable on-line co-op from the console version of Sigma 2. Multiplayer isn't exactly a series staple, but for many, it added a ton of replay value, and I'm sure more than a few fans will be left scratching their heads at its omission. In its place is a lackluster tag mode, where you tackle waves of enemies with the help of an AI partner. The increased character count proves too much for the engine to handle, however, worsening the game’s already apparent performance issues. Rounding out the shortcomings is a lack of dual language support, which leaves you to endure the wince-worthy voice acting and lip-synching of the English dub throughout. In every other way, you can expect the same content that was in the PS3 version of Sigma 2.

The Verdict

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus isn't a bad action game by any means. In fact, at moments it can be wildly entertaining, but those moments come bundled with a terrible camera, uneven level design, and combat that tends to cheat you as often as it challenges you. Whether you loved Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 or not, this version's missing features and spotty performance are still impossible to ignore. Simply put, the original Sigma Plus is a better port of a better game, and far more worthy of your time and money.
