Sour news recently surfaced out of Japan that Bandai Namco will soon be closing twenty game centers across the country. Bandai Namco Holdings president Shukuo Ishikawa said in the announcement that they plan to shutter the establishments by the end of March. This represents an almost 10% cut in its total number of arcades in the country.

Bandai Namco was recently listed as the most powerful video game company in Japan, though factors such as the country’s April tax increase will raise their operating cost in 2014.

The move was prompted by the company as a cost-cutting measures due, in part, to the game centers’ lagging profits. According to Ishikawa, this will save the company approximately ¥3.5 billion (~$34 million USD). Further financial information can be found over on Avoiding the Puddle.

    街机的技术无法对家用机造成压制,还有经营方式过于古板.

很多游戏就是不出家用版……于是在海外玩家几乎都玩不到正统作品的情况下，街机变成夕阳产业了

都这么有钱了还关。。。。。。。。。。

看来日本的街机业已经不行了，很难再看到当年街机的盛况了，大家现在都玩家用机、手游，再加**机的性能跟家用机相差不大，一般游戏从街机移植过来都是完美移植，所以街机的特点已经越来越少了。当年喜欢玩街机是因为家用机跟街机的性能相差悬殊，很多画面优秀的游戏只能在街机上体验到，怀念当年的街机啊，那么多的新作上市、发售，真心赞。
