An open-world action-adventure game is one of the trickiest to pull off, yet the makers of "Shenmue" have made it look easy yet invested with the unique storyline and impressive gameplay. It is no surprise that the series is having a third take, which is expected sometime in 2017.

   
In a video interview on "Shenmue 3's" official website, the director, producer, and writer rolled-into-one Yu Suzuki talks about how the game's music is conceptualized. He explains that it is one of the three key elements that innovates the entertainment value of the game.

Considering the game's setting is 1987 China, he endeavors to capture the gentleness of that era through music. He prefers the Chinese fiddle, saying it has the same register near to the human voice, thus creating a feeling that the background music sings to the player.

Suzuki emphasizes on how music is used to heighten the emotion of the game or simply make it a relaxing experience. "With the battles anyways, the focus was on finding and arranging songs to provide tension and liveliness. For quests, the play time is lengthier, so you want music that you can listen to repeatedly without becoming irritated by it. And with the events, you need to give that one-time punch to give accentuation. When the bosses make an appearance, I look for powerful music that makes as big of an impact as possible," Suzuki explained.

After the teaser trailer was released during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) conference last June 2015, loyal fans of the Dreamcast title have been anticipating the launch of the third installment. Now that it has been over a year, people are already wondering what has happened to its development.

According to the Bitbag, there is a possibility that an announcement will be made in the upcoming PlayStation Experience (PSX) 2016 at Anaheim, California this coming Dec. 3–4. If it is true, "Shenmue 3" may finally release either a gameplay footage or a definitive release date for the title.

"Shenmue 3" is initially slated for release on PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows platforms by December 2017.
