According to securities and investment analysts of Wedbush Morgan Securities, the industry is slowly creeping to a point where content quality and variety will depend on the movie industry. Michael Pachter said in the report that Wedbush Morgan expects the ultimate outcome of the console wars to be decided by the motion picture studios.
According to the report, Sony's next-gen console could overtake all competition and win the next-gen console wars by a marginal victory, resulting to a 36% overall market share by Sony, 34% market share by Nintendo and a mere 30% market share by Microsoft. This, of course, is notwithstanding each console's performance in the Eastern front, where Morgan expects Nintendo to win by a 51% market share, followed by Sony with 44%.
But all of these projections are conditional: if Sony does well to market their Blu-Ray technology to home entertainment enthusiasts and to the movie industry, then by 2011 Sony will ultimately win the next-gen console war. Pachter explained, "We expect the dominant console at the end of the next cycle to be Sony PlayStation 3, primarily due to our assessment that Sony will win the high definition DVD format war."
So if the picture studios actually accept the Blu-Ray standard for their high-definition movies format, the PlayStation 3 would be a practical choice for home entertainment buffs, providing a secure edge for Sony over Microsoft.

Pachter得出结论表明，“最终索尼PS3将以36%的市场占有率成为赢家，任天堂以34%的占有率位居第二，微软占市场30%。我们相信最终三款主机将平分天下，并且都将凭借足够的市场份额获取不错的利润。”

而来自 Lazard的分析家Colin Sebastian仍旧批判PS3的成本过高导致市场定位过窄，表示除非索尼降价，或者可供选择的游戏增加，否则没多少用户愿意花大价钱买PS3回家。
