The final game of Microsoft's "Summer of Arcade," Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light will hit Live on August 18th.
Switching the series to an isometric viewpoint, adding offline co-op, and being all around "arcade-y" really set this title apart from the others in the Tomb Raider series.
Today Crystal Dynamics announced that the downloadable title will continue to get DLC updates until the end of the year. Here's the official description: "From October to December the Downloadable Lara Croft campaign continues with 5 packs available across all formats. The first three are expansion packs featuring a combination of all new puzzle, exploration and combat experiences in the game and new areas to explore. The further two packs are playable character packs, offering gamers the chance to experience the entire adventure without Lara Croft and Totec and instead with some other well-known videogame characters"
But one of the kickers in the today's announcement was the following line: "On [September 28th, the PC and PS3 release day,] we will offer a free update for Xbox 360 gamers to download which will include the introduction of two player online co-op as well as full leaderboard support and voice chat functionality."
By my count that means that we Xbox-ers won't be able to play online co-op for over a month after the game's release...just local co-op.
There is no word on pricing for the additional DLC packs.
Does a downloadable game need this much extra content? If you read my E3 preview the game is indeed fun, but 5 DLC packs for an XBLA title seems...new.. |
