Freak Alert: Phoenix Jones Is Seattle’s Real-Life Super Hero
Phoenix Jones has made headlines yet again in Seattle, this time preventing a car theft. According to KIRO TV in Seattle, a man identified only as Dan was approaching his car in a Lynwood parking lot when he saw someone sticking a metal strip into the window jamb, trying to pop the lock. Dan dialed 911, but suddenly help arrived in the form of a real-life man with a super-hero costume.
Phoenix Jones chased away the would-be car thief, and subsequently was interviewed by Monique Ming Laven of KIRO TV. He showed her his black rubber suit, which incorporates a bullet-proof vest and stab plates as safety features, and also showed her his Taser night stick and the can of Mace he carries as well. He didn’t talk much about whether he has any martial arts skills or any other ways to defend himself in hand-to-hand combat, perhaps because what the criminals in Seattle don’t know about him won’t hurt him.
While many people are lauding the efforts of this man, I have to think that he might be just a little touched in the head. If he wants to fight crime, why not join up with the police force and do it with the proper authorization? He says he’s been stabbed and had a gun pulled on him, but has not been seriously injured. Yet. Also, I find myself wondering who is paying for his medical care when he gets injured? It occurs to me that for someone to walk the streets at night every night, he must not be employed…leading me to wonder if he has health insurance. And even if he does have health insurance, it’s quite likely there’s a clause in it that prevents him from claiming benefits for injuries incurred while operating as a vigilante justice super hero.
Phoenix Jones, the Guardian of Seattle, is a member of an organization called the Rain City SuperHero Movement, and there are about eight others of them. Jones says they all have martial arts or military backgrounds, and they’re prepared to deal with whatever crime comes their way. They know there are risks and they don’t care. Police in general are just hoping they don’t get killed, or interfere in police investigations. The police need reliable witnesses who can testify accurately about crimes they witnessed, not caped crusaders who don’t leave a return address or worse, end up on a morgue slab.

美國西雅圖出現九名平民「超級英雄」，穿緊身衣兼蒙面，自告奮勇維持治安，似足荷里活電影《勁揪俠》的主角。他們會如漫畫中的超級英雄般，躲在書櫃後「變身」，於黑夜在市內巡邏，亦有護身衣物及攻擊道具，打擊罪案絕非「玩玩吓」。
西雅圖巿郊一名市民，日前在停車場發現有人想偷他的車。正欲致電報警之際，一名身穿黑色緊身橡膠衣的蒙面人突出現，匪徒嚇得拔足而逃，這個蒙面人原來是鳳凰瓊斯（Phoenix Jones）。他和另八人合組「西雅圖超級英雄行動」，而且人人有名堂，包括、荊棘俠（Thorn）、綠魔俠（Green Reaper）等。
習過武 當過兵 自備護具
鳳凰瓊斯表示，一眾平民「超級英雄」都不是烏合之眾：「我們全都學過武術或當過兵，亦知道要承擔的風險。」不過始終是血肉之軀，他出巡時都佩備防彈衣，手腳及要害加墊作保護，並會帶上電槍及催淚氣體，以防萬一。
西雅圖警方早已知道這班大俠的存在。警方發言人說：「市民參與撲滅罪行並無不妥，只要依法而行便可。」不過他強調市民遇事時最好都是報警求助。
