Here’s some interesting news that probably doesn’t mean much overall but is interesting no less. In its 33rd week on Japanese shelves, Sony’s PS4 console has officially fallen behind Sega’s Dreamcast console in terms of sale over the same time period.
这则新闻可能没什么重要的意义，但是仍不失为一个有趣的视点。PS4在日本前33周的销量甚至低于发卖后同时间段的Dreamcast。

That means that in its first 33 weeks on the market (from late 1998 through mid-1999) the Dreamcast sold 724k units in Japan while the PS4 sits at 717k sales after 33 weeks on the market.
在世嘉DC发售的前33周（1998年后期到1999年中期），在日本共售出约72W台，而PS4只有71W台。

What does this mean? Little, really. It’s an interesting way to see things and shows just how much the Japanese market has changed since 1999. Consoles were far more popular 15 years ago in Japan. Nowadays only handhelds sell in large numbers, with a console moving 5k-10k per week deemed normal for the region.
这个结果虽无任何意义，但从中可以窥见自1999年日本市场这15年来发生的翻天覆地的变化。如今的日本便携式游戏设备占据了压倒性的销量，而家用机市场已经减少到每周区区5千~1万台左右的销量。

Of course this isn’t an entirely fair equation. The Dreamcast not only had a Japanese market that wasn’t nearly as disinterested with console gaming as the market it has today but it also launched before the 1998 holidays. The PS4 launched in February earlier this year. Besides Golden Week, the PS4 hasn’t had a holiday period to boost system sales.
当然，如此比较并不完全公平，DC当年拥有比现今更繁荣的日本家用机市场，同时也是在1998年的假期发售。反观PS4，它于今年2月在日本上市，除了一个黄金周（五月初），它几乎没有遇到任何假期商潮来推动销量。

I don’t the PS4 will trail behind the Dreamcast in side-by-side sales much longer. With the holidays fast approaching PS4 sales will surely pick up in Japan, even if they never reach the heights of 3DS/PS Vita sales.
但是我认为这种情况不会持续太久。随着假期来临PS4的销售定会好转，即使它从未达到过3DS/PS Vita的销量。

But today Sega, you can say your final console (who everyone and their mother has to compare every new console to) was doing better than Sony’s massively successful PS4 at the same period in time. Cheers Sega!
