Five things we learned from Arsenal's win over Partizan Belgrade

1 If this is Arsène Wenger's strongest team he has problems against Manchester United
When asked about standing key personnel down with a view to Arsenal's trip to Old Trafford the Frenchman said: "There are five days between this game and the United match so I do not consider it." While Tomas Rosicky and Jack Wilshere may have an argument to start in Wenger's best XI this team was about the finest he can send out. They were disjointed and unconvincing.

2 Samir Nasri could be a more dynamic heartbeat than Cesc Fábregas
Nasri wants to play centrally, a proposal Wenger has so far batted off with a shrug. Fábregas's troublesome hamstrings plus his hopes of playing for his beloved Barcelona could form the perfect reason for Wenger to cash in on his captain and mould the team around Nasri. Against Partizan he again showed he is a greater dribbling threat than the Spaniard, while also being able to pass and make late runs.

3 Andrey Arshavin is a fading force
The forward memorably picked Holland apart in Russia's scintillating 3-1 quarter-final win at Euro 2008. A move to Arsenal arrived the following January, Arshavin scored all four in a draw at Liverpool that April and last season he returned 12 goals, a fair return. But this season he has appeared laboured and clumsy. Against Partizan his contribution was a failed Hollywood ball to Marouane Chamakh towards the close of the first half plus countless unconvincing touches before Wenger pulled him off 23 minutes from the end.

4 Is Kieran Gibbs a glass half-full man?
Ashley Cole's natural successor would have felt cursed following the 15th-minute injury he suffered to his ankle when the left-back turned on the joint as he monitored Almami Moreira. When he departed on a stretcher only to spring to his feet and return to the fray the 21-year-old may have felt fortune turning. But eight minutes later Gibbs finally accepted his evening was over.

5 Arsenal's best hope of silverware this season is a domestic cup
They may lead the Premier League but if Wenger's first-choice were 17 minutes from allowing Partizan to claim their first point of the group stage Arsenal can surely not win the Champions League. The same argument holds regarding their hopes of winning a first league title since 2004.
