推上有个叫William R.aguilar@WilliamRAguilar的人分析的还是挺中肯的。
TLDR: Last of Us Multiplayer is Continuing Development but it Needs more time. Additionally, Naughty Dog is already working on their next Single Player Story Driven Game.
Analysis & Speculation:
After the rigorous internal review, it seems that there was a massive shake up within all of PlayStation's Studios & Partners.
PlayStation's focus is on QUALITY 1st and foremost. To meet this higher bar in quality, for their upcoming Multiplayer/Live Service Games, Sony is using Bungie to help evaluate these games by giving advice to the studios & setting goalposts for them to reach.
It seems that if the upcoming Multiplayer Games do not reach these new higher standards of quality or goalposts in development that the games could be delayed like Last of Us Multiplayer or even (possibly) cancelled (Deviation).
However, if the game is impressive and surpasses expectations from a partner studio they could also be acquired like Firewalk Studios and their upcoming Sci-Fi PvP game: Concord.
PlayStation will continue to make both Single Player AND Multiplayer Games but they intend to apply a higher bar of quality on both. While it is true that nearly 1/2 of all future games in development are Multiplayer 1/2 will also still be Single Player Story Driven.
Despite making more Multiplayer Games this Gen, There will still be MORE Single Player Games from 1st & 2nd Party PlayStation Studios this gen than they had last gen.
Sony wants at least a few of their Multiplayer Games to be successful in order to provide a financial safety net so that they can continue to create bigger and better AAA Story Driven Single Player Games, while reducing risk due to how expensive those games are.
Remember that God of War 2018 was a HUGE Risk for PlayStation and they weren't sure if the game would be well received by fans. If that game failed, it would have significantly harmed PlayStation. By producing a few highly successful Multiplayer Live Service Games that provide consistent income over time, PlayStation can have the financial safety net to continue taking these kinds of risks in making bigger and better Single Player AAA Story Driven Games as well as New IPs.
Final Thoughts:
Since I counted about 10-15 upcoming games both known and rumored still in development that were, prior to the internal review, labeled: "Ready To Be Shown" and now post-internal review labeled: "Needs More Time." I believe that it is more than likely that there will be another Showcase or larger sized State of Play (like the two in 2022) later this year.
If I were to guess when, typically these shows have been in either the month of September or December. However, I am not an insider so this is just my speculation.
I would say that I would be extremely surprised if this is all we hear from PlayStation for the rest of the year.
Regardless of what happens, at the end of the day, what really matters to both Consumers and Investors of Sony/PlayStation is if the games/products they are making are High Quality and either Meet or Exceed Revenue Expectations. So far, PlayStation hasn't failed us. In other words, a marketing campaign failing to meet expectations is not as important as whether or not the games are good and sell well. So far, PlayStation has been good about this.
Spider-Man 2 still has 4+ months of polish before it will likely come out and that's plenty of time to knock out the kinks.
However, if both the marketing/showcases are bad AND the games are bad then we can come back and have a real conversation about what's going on.
If Spider-Man 2 is Good and Sells Well and the Next Multiplayer Games is Good and makes or exceeds the expected Revenue then the rigorous review, that resulted in delays, which in turn resulted in a showcase that didn't meet expectations, will have been proven to be the right move.
All I can say is that there are still a lot more games to be revealed and of those already revealed, there's still plenty to be excited for! |
