AMD claims to have variable rate shading since Polaris. Well, not in the sense as it's described in the patent that su**ced today I guess (since this was announced before it). It's in LiquidVR if I remember correctly.
I believe the original "Variable rate shading" belongs to neither AMD nor NVIDIA, but Intel from 2014(!!!). It's called "Coarse pixel shading" there though. Intel will implement it first in their next GPU though as far as I've understood it. First to create it, but last to implement it.
Either way, NVIDIA has it and Intel+AMD will have it very soon. So I guess that means that this becomes a standard? |
